At 3:18 p.m. Monday, a man driving down Lief Erikson Drive in Astoria jumped the curb with his car near 46th Street and struck several parked cars, knocking 8-year-old Tessa Hudak to the ground. The girl had been walking home after being dropped off by a school bus.

Hudak was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital. She had no visible traumatic injuries, but required medical attention, said Sgt. Brad Johnston of the Astoria Police Department. The full extent of her injuries is unknown.

The driver, Jay Polenz, 57, of Astoria, was cited for careless driving. He told police a sneezing fit caused him to jump the curb.
