SEASIDE — At first, Mel Zundel said, it felt like an earthquake.

“The whole building shook,” he said.

But he soon discovered that the “earthquake” was actually the impact from a car that had run into the Ace Hardware Building, 39 S. Holladay Drive.

The accident occurred at 3 p.m. Sunday. Although customers were in the building, no one was injured, said Zundel, who is the store’s “person in charge.”

“I was heading toward the back of the building when I heard a great big crunch, and I went up to the front and there was a car,” he said.

The car banged against the glass door, “but the concrete wall stopped it,” Zundel said.

The car’s driver apparently hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, he said. Although Seaside police arrived, they didn’t charge the driver, who drove away later.

“There was more damage to the building than to the car,” Zundel said.
