Cathlamet residents, merchants and local officials hope to capitalize on their town's existing assets in drafting a downtown revitalization master plan.
"The beauty and uniqueness of the town's Columbia River setting and history provide the community with a special character that can enchant and attract citizens and visitors alike," said Joyce Jackson, Mitchell Nelson Group team leader. MNG is serving as land use and community planning consultant for the project.
"The revitalization plan builds upon the riverfront assets of the community, acknowledges and preserves the existing waterfront industry, works to enhance connections between the downtown and marina and addresses safety awareness of the State Highway access points into Cathlamet," said Jackson,
In addition to improved signage throughout the town, the plan calls for bicycle racks, benches, flower boxes and baskets, streetlights, development of a parking management plan and adoption of architectural guidelines.
A $24,000 federal community development block grant funded the study leading to the draft revitalization plan.
The next step is to finalize the plan, incorporating recommendations made by MNG and community members, following a public meeting on the plan held in April.
