The U.S. Census Bureau seeks 900 qualified applicants to test in Oregon, especially from Clatsop and Tillamook counties. A basic skills test and a background check are required for temporary jobs which pay $15.25 per hour.

Tuesday, 9:30 a.m., Bob Chisholm Community Center, 1225 Avenue A, Seaside.

April 5, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., Tillamook County Transportation District, 3600 Third St., Tillamook.

April 8, 1 p.m., Garibaldi City Hall, 107 Sixth St., Garibaldi.

In addition to knocking on doors of neighbors who did not return their census, workers also will staff more than 30,000 Questionnaire Assistance Centers around the nation, where people can get help with their forms in multiple languages. Centers throughout Oregon opened last week and are scheduled to operate through April 19. Center locations can be found at

Mandated by the U.S. Constitution, the census takes place on April 1. Census data determine boundaries for state and local legislative and congressional districts.

More than $400 billion in federal funds are distributed annually based on census data to pay for local programs and services.
