The Astoria-Warrenton Chamber of Commerce Business Education Committee honored Robbie Weidman as Student Employee of the Month at Monday's Astoria City Council meeting.

Weidman has worked at the Astoria Aquatic Center for the past 18 months. He is a lifeguard, teaches swimming lessons and helps keep the facility clean.

Aquatic center manager, Erin Estes, says Weidman is flexible, dependable, thoughtful and trustworthy. He is serious when it comes to safety and can be trusted to back up any team member in a rescue situation.

Weidman typically works 3 to 4 hours per day at the aquatic center. He also swims for the Astoria High School swim team and participates in the Astoria Fire Department Fire Cadet Program. He is not sure what career path he would like to pursue, but he'd like to do something that involves saving lives.

Because Weidman is home-schooled, he is able to work a flexible schedule at the aquatic center. He says that his job has helped him focus his study time and has given him valuable experience working with the public.

Weidman's parents are Janet and Peter Weidman.
