STANFORD, Calif. - Astoria High School graduate Abby Chesimet broke a 25-year old Oregon State record in the 5,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational March 26 at Cobb Track and Angell Field in Stanford, Calif.

Chesimet ran a time of 16:37.99 in the 5,000 to shatter Kathy Knowlton's 25-year old school record of 16:48.28. With her time, Chesimet also lowered her personal best by over 29 seconds.

"We had a tremendous weekend with a lot of people dropping their personal bests and Abby Chesimet breaking the school record in the 5,000," said Oregon State women's track head coach Kelly Sullivan.

While some OSU athletes competed at Stanford, others were at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival, where OSU freshman (and Seaside High graduate) Ashley Mayfield finished seventh overall in the 800 meters in 2:18.93.
