SOUTH BEND, Wash. - The Chinook Indian Tribe held its annual meeting recently.

Elected to the Chinook Tribal Council for three-year terms were Sam Robinson, Greg Robinson and Rex Rhoades, who will serve as the tribe's secretary-treasurer.

Laurie Wyatt was elected to the council for a one-year term. She will serve out the remainder of the term for Dick Basch, who resigned.

Retiring tribal council member Darlene Brueher was recognized for her years of dedication. She was wrapped in a thunderbird and whale blanket by the council and honored.

Tribal leaders presented summaries of the work that has been accomplished by tribal departments during the past year. Reports presented included business, communications, cultural, enrollment, scholarships, health, fisheries and social services.

The Chinook are participants in the Southwest Washington Intertribal Health Alliance with the Shoalwater, Chehalis, Cowlitz and Nisqually Tribes.

The Chinook Tribal Council is the governing body for the Clatsop, Wahkiakum, Cathlamet, Willapa, and Lower Chinook tribes.
