PACIFIC CITY - If you're looking for a fun reason to step out on a winter Saturday night, the Community Arts Project (CAP) will once again present "Your Heart's Desire: A Celebration of Chocolate, Wine and Art" from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7. Tickets are $25 per person in advance or $30 at the door.

The event, planned with Valentine's Day in mind, is a fundraiser for CAP art literacy programs in local schools. It will be held in a new and larger location this year, the Kiawanda Community Center. The public event includes complimentary chocolate desserts of many kinds, appetizers, wine, beer, sparkling cider, music, a silent auction, a raffle and more.

Also featured at the event will be the sale of artwork by local professional artists, with half of the proceeds going to the artists and half to CAP programs. The artwork will also be on display and for sale at the Kiawanda Community Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6 and 7, and at the event Saturday evening. Guests at the Saturday evening event may also purchase Nestucca Valley Elementary School student artwork and cards and one-of-a-kind ceramic dessert plates created especially for the occasion by local artists; a limited number of these artworks will be available. Adding to the festivities will be an exhibition of original artwork created by students in the art literacy programs.

Currently, art literacy programs are being presented at Nestucca Valley Elementary School in Cloverdale and Garibaldi grade schools. Each month, a 90-minute art education session is conducted in each classroom focusing on a famous artist or art movement. The lesson includes art history, technique and aesthetic analysis, as well as an opportunity for students to create their own artwork in the style of the artist or art movement presented. Students look forward to each session and have impressed instructors, parents, teachers and volunteers with how well they retain the information. The program is privately funded and presented by CAP, which also presents the children's summer art program "Slug Soup." Funding relies on special events, grants and donations from local individuals and businesses.

Sponsors of this year's "Your Heart's Desire" event include the Pelican Pub and Brewery, Kiawanda Community Center, Cape Kiwanda RV Resort, Rosenberg Builders Supply, Grateful Bread Bakery, Tillamook Headlight-Herald/Lincoln City Newsguard, Village Merchants, TLC Federal Credit Union, KTIL/KMBD, US Bank Cloverdale and Nesko Women's Club.

Kiawanda Community Center is located at 34600 Cape Kiwanda Drive. For more information or tickets, call Kim Cavatorta at (503) 392-4581.
