A carelessly discarded cigarette is blamed for a fire early Saturday morning that destroyed a small motor home in the 1300 block of Ninth Street, near Madison Avenue. The owner of the motor home was not inside when the fire broke out according to Astoria Fire Marshal Mike Jackson. He said the vehicle was fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived on scene. It was destroyed, along with its contents. Two 9-1-1 callers reported the fire at 3:51 a.m. A fire investigation later that morning by Jackson and members of the Clatsop County Fire Investigation team determined the cause.
