Clatsop County is soliciting applications for two citizen committees that strive to better the lives of local residents.
The Commission on Children and Families has a vacancy for an unexpired term ending Feb. 28, 2006. The commission is charged under Oregon law with promoting the well being of children and families. The commission assesses the needs of local families and children and develops plans to try to meet those needs.
The Human Services Advisory Committee has several openings. This committee advises the county Health and Human Services Department on developmental disabilities, mental health and alcohol and drug abuse services. The group helps establishes priorities for publicly funded services, assists in selecting service providers and evaluating services, and provides a link to the public through advocacy and education.
The Human Services Advisory Committee's membership is required to include recipients of services, advices, professionals, key referral sources, non-contracted providers, contracted providers who are nonvoting, and lay citizens in balanced representation. Representation must also include minority members that reasonably reflect the proportion of the need for alcoholism treatment and rehabilitation services of minorities in the community and at least one member who has mental or physical disabilities.
Submit applications by June 30 to be considered for appointment by the Board of Commissioners. Forms are available by calling the County Administrator's Office at 325-1000 or on the county's web site at (www.co.clatsop.or.us).
