The U.S. Coast Guard, which is part of the new Homeland Security Department, is working with several federal agencies to ensure security of ports, waterways and facilities, according to a statement released by the 13th Coast Guard District, which includes Group Astoria.

This morning, Chief Steve McAloney, group duty officer at Air Station Astoria, said his group has not increased patrols recently.

"So far, nothing's been changed," he said.

An Oregon Army National Guard company stationed at Rilea Armed Forces Training Center will be one of the last companies in the state mobilized. Charlie Company of the 1249th Engineer Battalion will host a deployment ceremony at 4 p.m. Friday at Camp Rilea's building 7001. The ceremony, which will feature speakers from Clatsop County and Camp Rilea, is open to friends, family and community members. It will honor the National Guard soldiers prior to their deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Refreshments will be available after the ceremony.
