ASTORIA - One of Astoria’s classic neon signs moved to a new home June 1.

The historic Columbia Travel sign was moved by Dewey’s Sign Service in Longview from its longtime home at the corner of 12th and Duane Streets, to Columbia Travel’s new building.

“Having been born and raised in Astoria, it’s been here on this corner for as long as I can remember,” said owner Rose Marie Paavola.

Paavola bought Columbia Travel in 1989. She bought the building on 13th Street in 2000 and considered moving the business at that point, but was hesitant to move it out of the building it had been in for decades.

However, she said she’s been through the Liberty Theater and Elliott Hotel restorations already. Now that the Liberty is embarking on its second-floor restorations, she said it was a good time for Columbia Travel move.

Columbia Travel’s new location is at 433 13th Street, Astoria. For more information, call 503-325-1531.
