SEASIDE - The Miss Clatsop County Scholarship Program is recruiting candidates to compete for the title of Miss Clatsop County 2005. Contestants will be judged in five categories: interview, talent, evening gown, fitness and casual wear.

The pageant is scheduled for March 26 at the Seaside Convention Center. The first informational meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Nov. 29 at Encore Dance Studio, 3595 U.S. Highway 101 N., in Gearhart.

The Miss Clatsop County Scholarship Program is the preliminary competition for the Miss Oregon Scholarship Program and is part of the Miss America organization.

Miss America is a not-for-profit corporation established to provide contestants with the opportunity to enhance their professional and educational goals, and to achieve those pursuits with the assistance of monetary grants and awards. Last year, more than $10,000 in scholarship money was given out at the local level.

Young women aged 17 to 24 who want to get involved should call (503) 717-1637 to leave their name and telephone number.

The Clatsop County Program is run solely by volunteers. Anyone interested in helping is asked to contact the organizers.
