LONG BEACH, Wash. - Fred Cook has been chosen as a new member of Long Beach City Council, replacing Don Maxson, who resigned.

Cook has been a member of the Long Beach Planning Commission for a year. Cook and his wife, Patricia, purchased a vacation home in Long Beach in 1987, and have been full-time residents for the eight years.

His prior work experience also includes serving as the chairman of the Ocean Beach Education Foundation Alumni Fund Drive, as well as two years on the board of directors for the dispensing optician program at Seattle Central Community College. Cook served three years on the opticians examining board, a position appointed at the discretion of the governor.

Other applicants were a former mayor, Ken Ramsey, Arlene Strubelt, who is active with the Pacific County Mental Health Advisory Board, and Joseph Strubelt, chaplain administrator of Crossways Ministries.
