Fresh corn from Mike and Debbie's Produce in Cornelius and barbequed salmon donated by Bornstein's Seafood will be on the menu for the third annual Salmon and Corn Dinner to be held in the Gearhart Fire Department Station from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 14.

Numerous local sponsors and the hard work of firefighters and their families will produce the dinner in a unique setting. All proceeds from the dinner will be donated to Lower Columbia Hospice's Adult Foster Home located at Smith Lake in Warrenton.

The Gearhart and Warrenton Fire departments are involved in the event because local firefighters had family members involved in hospice and residents of the foster home and they wanted their fund-raiser to assist people locally. This is the third year for this family oriented event.

The adult foster home locally known as Hospice House provides residential care for hospice patients. The house was donated by a former hospice patient, Betty Cleator, and has been a licensed foster home since 1999. The house has provided care to more than 100 families throughout Clatsop County. Lower Columbia Hospice provides the hospice care in the home.

Hospice is a multidisciplinary homecare service to terminally ill patients and their families. The goal of hospice is to provide comfort, care and enhance quality of life. Lower Columbia Hospice, a program of Columbia Memorial Hospital, has been providing care in Clatsop County since 1981.
