ELSIE - A Clatsop County Search and Rescue team helped a lost family find their way out of the forest near Elsie Monday.

Late Sunday night, deputies from the Clatsop County Sheriff's Office responded to a report that a husband and wife from Elsie and their niece and nephew from California had gotten lost while hiking in the forest near Elderberry and Gronnel roads.

In a cell phone conversation, the hikers told officials they had adequate food, shelter and fire to sustain themselves through the night and into the next morning. At 6 a.m. Monday, Clatsop County Search and Rescue began a ground search for the hikers. With help from Washington County Search and Rescue, the team found the family at 9: 16 a.m., gave them water and led them to safety.
