The Port of Astoria has extended the deadline to apply for the two vacant positions on the Port Commission to 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Two hours after that, the three remaining Port Commissioners meet to interview and later appoint the two new commissioners. The meeting takes place at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the old Port offices, 422 Gateway Ave.

Ric Gerttula resigned just before the public portion of the May 6 Port Commission meeting. Jack Bland resigned two weeks later. The Port said originally advertised the vacancies on its website a day after Gerttula resigned, and a Daily Astorian article the day after gave notice of the vacancies.

Three people have applied for the Port Commission so far, although the Port refused to release the names without a written records request, which The Daily Astorian has made.

Applicants for the position must reside in Clatsop County and are requested to submit a resume and cover letter. Responses are due to the port administrative offices at No. 10 Pier 1, Suite 308, Astoria, OR 97103 by 3 p.m. Tuesday by mail or to

The Port Commission will also hear a presentation by Seattle-based Da Yang Seafoods, which, with New Jersey-based Great Ocean Seafood, developed a proposal for a cold storage and freight depot on Pier 2. It will also hear presentation from the Washington Development Group, owners of the North Tongue Point land the Port leases, about a project to replace a sewer lift station.
