Emergency crew responds to sceneCannon Beach Emergency Rescue responded to a report of a stranded deer Sunday afternoon. The deer was standing on a rock in the ocean off West Way, at the south end of the Tolovana area.

Officers reported to the beach, and decided to wait and see if the deer could get off the rock itself. The water around the rock was shallow and after just a few minutes, the deer jumped off the rock and swam to shore unharmed. Fire Marshal Mike Graham said that deer often swim out into the ocean to wash themselves off with salt water.
