TILLAMOOK - Pitching and defense was the name of the game Tuesday, as the Warrenton Junior State baseball swept a pair of games from Tillamook, 4-2 and 2-0.

Nate McBride and David Stevens both recorded complete-game victories for the Warriors, who improve to 5-2 overall. McBride struck out 11 batters, walked three and allowed four hits in the opener, and the Warriors scored two runs in the top of the sixth on their way to the win. Warrenton played errorless ball in the field.

Tillamook pitcher Kyle Corwin - a Neah-Kah-Nie player who hooked up with the Cheesemakers after the Pirates forfeited the rest of their season - gave up five hits in the loss. Stevens and another strong defensive effort helped the Warriors to the Game 2 win. Stevens allowed just two hits, with seven strikeouts, one walk and one hit batter.

Stevens threw just 65 pitches in seven innings, and went 2-for-3 at the plate. Zach LaRue had a double for the Warriors. Warrenton scored both runs in the sixth, as Zach Gantenbein had a lead-off single, stole second and scored on a Tyler McGrorty single. McGrorty later scored on a base hit by Stevens.

The Warriors - who were scheduled to play Neah-Kah-Nie Thursday - will host a pair of games with Rainier next Tuesday.

Other Junior State games Tuesday - Rainier at Astoria and Knappa at Clatskanie - were postponed. The Columbians and Fishermen will play a 6 p.m. doubleheader today at Aiken Field.
