Clatsop County Administrator Scott Derickson received positive marks from the county commissioners for his first year on the job.

The commissioners on Wednesday approved Derickson's one-year evaluation and awarded him a 2-percent pay increase.

The former Warrenton city manager joined the county in October 2003, replacing former administrator Jim Azumano.

The commissioners discussed Derickson's performance in an executive session earlier this month. Derickson was applauded for his crisis management, budget oversight and ability to delegate tasks, and for carrying out the board's decisions.

Areas of improvement the commissioners noted included keeping the board better informed about action on their decisions, and working harder to share information with the public on the county's work.

"Board members agreed that Derickson's performance to date has either met or exceeded expectations in all performance categories assessed," the board's evaluation report stated. "Derickson has shown considerable initiative in addressing some longstanding problems within the county government."

"In my first year it has been a real pleasure and honor working with Clatsop County," Derickson said. "I appreciate the board's encouragement, and I look forward to a long tenure with the county."
