An Astoria resident was struck by a car Friday morning, and an Astoria driver has been cited for careless driving.

Allan Schumacher, 54, was walking on Commercial Street near City Lumber when he was struck by a car driven by Richard Tollefson, 66.

Astoria Fire and Rescue received the report of the accident at 21st and Marine Drive at 11:58 a.m. Friday.

“The person was leaving the hardware store and was just crossing the street with his purchase,” said Deputy Fire Chief Steve Straily of Schumacher.

“The car was coming around the side street and didn’t see him.

“He struck him without seeing him so there were no brakes, but luckily it was a low impact collision. But the pedestrian was hurt pretty bad.”

Schumacher was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital where he has since been released. His condition and injuries were not known.

Tollefson was cited for careless driving.
