Leaders of ENCORE (Exploring New Concepts of Retirement Education) will hold their annual meeting from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Warrenton Community Center, 170 S.W. Third St.
The program offers enrichment classes for seniors.
There will be a review of the accomplishments and election of officers for the 2008-2009 year. Refreshments will be served.
ENCORE's fall classes start today. Nonmembers can attend one free session of any class.
The "Book Discussion Group" will discuss "People of the Book" by Geraldine Brooks and will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays at Clatsop Community College Library Conference Room from Tuesday to Nov. 18.
"Tuesdays at the Music Hall" will follow the development of jazz in the U.S. Classes will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursdays at the CCC South County Center from Thursday to Nov. 13. "The Great American Songbook" will explore music by such composers as the Gershwins from the 1920s to the 1950s. Classes will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Bob Chisholm Community Center in Seaside from Thursday to Oct. 16.
The object of "Dendrology" class is to teach students how to identify trees of the Northwest. Some time will be spent looking at trees in nature. Classes will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays at the Astoria Senior Center from Wednesday to Oct. 15.
"Ukulele - Strummers," for those who want to learn to play the ukulele, will meet from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Fridays at the Rollin' Thunder on Pier 11 in Astoria from Friday to Nov. 14, with no class Oct. 7.
"Native Plants of Clatsop County" class will cover collecting, pressing and mounting of plant specimens. Class will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 29 at the Fort Clatsop Netul Room. A walking tour will be included.
The "Science Series" will focus on science issues such as the ideal eco-city, chemistry of mining, science of forestry and science topics in the news, and will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Astoria Senior Center from Wednesday to Nov. 12.
An "Old Testament History" class will be held from 10 to 11:45 a.m. at the CCC Library Conference Room Oct. 6, 20 and 27 and Nov. 3.
A "Write Your Memoirs" class will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the South CCC campus upstairs from Sept. 23 to Oct. 28.
"History in American Fiction," a study of Upton Sinclair's novel, "Oil!" will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Astoria Senior Center from Friday to Oct. 31. Students are encouraged to read the book.
A class titled "Invaders and Endangered Species" will examine natural and expected changes to plants and animal communities, and will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 22 and 29 and Nov. 5 and 12 at the Astoria Senior Center.
