ENCORE (Exploring New Concepts of Retirement Education), an association for retirement-aged people who share a love of learning and the desire to meet new friends, offers a number of classes this summer. Members can sign up for any classes, and nonmembers are welcome to attend one free session of any class.

• Summer Science Series: Sessions will be led by guest speakers and will include at least one field trip. The class will meet 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays starting this week, through Aug. 17.

• Summer Gallery Tour: A one-day tour of local art galleries led by Jane Means and Jane Audrey. Galleries in Gearhart, Seaside and Astoria are on the schedule. The class will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 8 at Trails End Gallery in Gearhart.

• On The Trail with Lewis and Clark: Bill Hubbard will lead the group in an exploration of areas the Corps of Discovery visited in the lower Columbia River. They will also visit the Dismal Nitch, now known as the Megler Rest Area. The class meets at 9 a.m. Fridays, July 15, 22 and 29.

• Stress - Can't Live With It and Can't Live Without It: This class focuses on techniques for dealing with stress. Bob Lobe and Faith St. Marie will lead from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Aug. 2, 9 and 16.

• Coast Guard Station Operations: A Coast Guard guide will show the ins and outs of stations at Cape Disappointment and learn about operations there. The class, limited to 40, will meet 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 5.
