Michael and Janet Bates, of Seaside, announce the engagement of their daughter, Emily Bates, of Seaside, to Chris McGuire, also of Seaside. He is the son of Thomas and Jeanette McGuire of Hammond.

The bride-to-be graduated from Seaside High School in 2003. She is a hair stylist.
