A soldier from Enterprise is recovering after losing his left foot to an improvised explosive device, or IED, while in Afghanistan.

U.S. Army Specialist Jason Walker also sustained shrapnel damage in his right femur and arm.

His parents tell the Wallowa County Chieftain that he is currently recovering at a military hospital in Germany after three operations there.

Walker is scheduled to be transferred to a medical center in San Antonio, Texas, this week.

He was within six months of finishing his third overseas deployment when the accident happened last week.

His family says Walker intends to remain in the Army and hopes to be stationed at Fort Lewis in Washington.
