The Rt. Rev. Johncy Itty, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon, makes his first formal Sunday visit to Grace Episcopal Church at 9 a.m. Sunday. Such formal visits occur only about once every two years because of the large number of parishes in the diocese.
The community of Grace and friends and visitors will gather for one worship service at 9 a.m. with Bishop Itty presiding. Several members of Grace Church will be reaffirming their baptismal vows during the service.
Following the service, Bishop Itty will host an educational forum. He has been active in ministry for a number of years at the international, national and diocesan level and has especially been involved in issues related to public policy, peace and justice ministries, diversity, evangelism and Christian formation.
Last January, he led the initial Episcopal relief efforts to the tsunami-ravaged areas of Southeast Asia, in conjunction with a visit he was making to Grace Episcopal's sister diocese in India, the Diocese of Madhya Kerela, Church of South India. During the forum, he will share what he and others with him experienced.
The forum will be followed by a potluck brunch at 11:30 am. All are welcome to attend. For information, call 325-4691.
