Ernest O. Patenaude, 54, of Astoria, died Sunday, May 14, 2006, in Longview, Wash.

Mr. Patenaude was born May 5, 1948 in Astoria to Alice and Ernest J. Patenaude. His father died in 1954. His mother, Alice Niska, survives, residing in Astoria.

Mr. Patenaude graduated from Astoria High School and Astoria Beauty College. He was a hair stylist in Portland, Seaside and Astoria. Family members said he was a film buff, loved literature, his cats and the Trail Blazers. He nursed his mother back to health after several serious health issues and was her main caregiver until his recent illness.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Patenaude is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Mark Litterman of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Kathy Patenaude of Astoria; one stepsister and brother-in-law, Grace Niska Atkins and Paul Atkins of Honolulu; one nephew, Christopher Patenaude of Astoria; one niece, Sarah L. Patenaude of Astoria; one aunt, Edna Patenaude of Clifton Park, N.Y.; and many cousins in New York.

In addition to his father, Mr. Patenaude was predeceased by his stepfather, Edwin L. Niska, May 18, 1989.

Family and friends will gather at 11 a.m. Thursday for a remembrance, followed by interment, at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.
