On Monday, Big River Excavating starts the construction phase of Astoria's Smith Point Storage Project, which is part of the city's Combined Sewer Overflow Separation Project. Next week, motorists should expect short traffic delays for storm line construction in the vicinity of Smith Point, on West Marine Drive in front of JT's Coffee, east of the Astoria Roundabout. Big River Excavating also continues work in the South Astoria area next week. Crews will be working on Madison Avenue from Third Street to Fourth Street and on Klaskanine Avenue from Sixth Street to Eigth Street.

Custom Excavating and its subcontractor, 3 Kings Environmental, are proceeding with the demolition of the old Safeway building, 1153 Duane St. Roof removal is expected to be finished by Monday, with building demolition to follow immediately. For safety reasons, parking will be restricted for portions of the south side of Duane Street.
