The Clatsop County Commission on Children and Families needs a new member.

The commission is charged by state law with promoting the wellness of children and families in Clatsop County. Its mission is to plan, advocate and stimulate community action on the behalf of children, youth and families, promoting their health, safety and well-being.

The panel assesses the needs of children and families and the resources available in the community and develops a comprehensive plan to meet those needs. The plan is submitted to the Clatsop County Board of Commissioners and the Oregon Commission on Children and Families for approval.

The current opening is to fill an unexpired term ending Feb. 28, 2006. To be considered for the volunteer position, obtain an application form from the County Administrator's Office at 800 Exchange St., Suite 310, Astoria or call 325-1000. Applications must be completed and returned to the administrator's office by Jan. 28. The county commissioners will make the appointment.

Applicants should be prepared to attend meetings. Committee members with three unexcused absences during a term are considered to have resigned the appointment.

The Commission on Children and Families meets the first Wednesday of the month from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Clatsop County Health & Human Services conference room. Additional time may be required when the commission plans a community forum or special event or holds work sessions or planning retreats.
