SEASIDE - In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, members of Faith Lutheran Church and Pre-school in Seaside have taken a "keeping-it-in-the-family" approach to coming to the aid of 600 victims being housed at Istrouma Baptist Church in BatonRouge, La.

Pastor Leas, of Faith Lutheran Church, was contacted by his brother-in-law, Pastor Stuart Rothberg, pastor of Istroum Baptist Church, and advised of their need for children's items. Their basic needs are being met, however, and they are requesting toys, books, games and cards, coloring books, crayons, stuffed animals and educational items. Also needed are batteries, packing supplies and money for shipping.

Donations are tax deductible. Items are being sent directly to the Istrouma Baptist Church.

Five boxes have already been shipped and the plan is to continue as long as there is a need. Current estimates are that the evacuees will be there through Christmas.

Volunteers are excited to be able to make a difference and appreciate any and all help. Donations can be made between 9 a.m. and noon, Monday through Friday, at Faith Lutheran Church, 1115 Broadway, Seaside, OR 97138. For more information, call the church at (503)738-7223 or Amy Meyer at (503)717-9846.
