The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission staff has added two dates to its series of public meetings to take comments on the draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Bradwood Landing liquefied natural gas project.

Meetings Nov. 5 and 6 in Clatskanie were announced Thursday, extending the list of Oregon and Washington sessions scheduled through Nov. 8. The DEIS, a voluminous federal environmental review, will eventually help a five-member commission decide whether to permit the project.

Houston-based NorthernStar Natural Gas Co. has proposed a $600 million LNG terminal and pipeline for a site 20 miles east of Astoria at Bradwood Landing.

The Bradwood Landing DEIS was released Aug. 17 and details the impacts of the project on endangered species, natural and cultural resources, and public safety. In the document, FERC staff members recommended 98 additional mitigation measures be taken by NorthernStar to offset the negative impacts of its proposed facility.

The project includes plans for up to three football field-sized LNG storage tanks, two or three delivery-tanker trips 38 miles up the Columbia River each week, and 36 miles of 3-foot-wide pipeline running through Clatsop and Columbia counties, under the Columbia River and northeast across Washington's Cowlitz County to a Williams Northwest Pipeline Company hub near Kelso, Wash.

Prior to construction, the company must receive a Land Use Compatibility Statement from Clatsop County, which requires several zoning changes at the proposed facility site.

The FERC meetings on the Bradwood Landing draft Environmental Impact Statement are:

? In Clatskanie, 6:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at Clatskanie Middle/High School, 471 Belair Drive; and 9 a.m. Nov. 6 in the Cedar Room at Clatskanie River Inn, 600 E. Columbia River Highway.
