Butterfly Fitness opened recently as one of the anchor tenants in the newly completed Gable Road Market Place in St. Helens.

Owner Laurie Holmason said she couldn't be more pleased with the facilities and the location.

"We had 103 women signed up before we even opened our doors," Holmason said. "It's a great building in a good location and gives us room for growth."

The San Ramon, Calif.-based Butterfly Life touts itself as a unique health and fitness program designed especially for women. There are nearly 225 Butterfly Life fitness centers across the U.S., including five in Oregon, Holmason said.

The program combines a 30-minute exercise circuit, lectures and classes every 30 minutes all day. Additionally, there is a Weight Loss Express program that offers lectures on dieting and nutrition.

Holmason said all of the equipment is designed specifically for women and can be adjusted to each individual "so they can get the most out of the exercise".

A former newspaper advertising sales representative, this is Holmason's first business venture.

Memberships are available on a month-to-month basis. For more information call Butterfly Life at (503) 397-9771.
