SEASIDE - It's not everyone that would get up at 5:30 in the morning to unload flower baskets and distribute them all over downtown Seaside, but that's what a hardy group of volunteers did this morning.

"This project is all about beautifying downtown Seaside," said Laurie Oxley, the director of the Seaside Downtown Development Association. "We have 64 flower baskets that we are unloading and placing all over downtown"

The volunteers helped to unload the baskets from a large truck that brought the flowers in from Portland to the downtown parking lot next to the Seaside Civic and Convention Center.

"This is great," said Russ Vandenberg, Seaside Civic and Convention Center director. "We are out helping this community putting flower baskets up making the downtown more beautiful."

This is the 17th year for the SDDA flower basket project. It is  supported through sponsorships and donations. It costs about $300 to purchase and main each of the flower baskets from May to mid September.
