VERNONIA - Residents in Tillamook and Columbia counties are able to apply for emergency Food Stamp Disaster Assistance Program, because of the state disaster declaration. People who live or work in the two counties and receive food stamps may be eligible to receive a supplement to their December food stamps.

Only people who have experienced damage to their property resulting in disaster-related expenses or have a loss of job or income will receive the benefits.

Residents can apply for benefits in the Department of Human Services office nearest them. Additionally, a temporary satellite office is operating out of the City Hall in Vernonia. The address is 1001 Bridge St., Vernonia, OR 97064.

For information on eligibility, office locations and how to apply, call Oregon SafeNet toll-free at 1-800-SAFENET (1-800-723-3638).
