GEARHART - Do you know who your ancestors were - where they came from, where they lived, how they earned a living? Did they have a big family? If you've ever wondered about your family history and have wanted to trace your roots but didn't know where to begin, this event is for you.

The Clatsop County Genealogical Society will sponsor a Beginning Genealogy Workshop starting at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at McMenamins Sand Trap, 1157 N. Marion Ave., on the Gearhart Golf Course. There is no admission fee and there will be a no-host group lunch after the workshop.

Bring whatever information you have about your parents, grandparents and great-grandparents (if available), including names and birthplaces, if you have that information. If you have a shoebox filled with scraps of paper, obituaries and newspaper clippings, bring it. A member of the Genealogical Society will show you the first steps and the basic research procedures to following when tracing your roots. There will be a list of Web sites and other helpful resources, and a small supply of helpful forms. Participants who have a laptop computer with wireless Internet capability are encouraged to bring it as well.

For more information and reservations, call (503) 861-3511 or (360) 642-3350.
