The Astor Street Opry Company raised more than $49,000 dollars at its Capital Campaign Building Fundraiser on March 27. State Sen. Betsy Johnson charged up the crowd of more than 60 to dig deep into their pockets and help ASOC own its own theater by this fall.

Mayor Willis L.Van Dusen reminded the crowd that the city of Astoria gave ASOC a matching grant of $25,000 as ASOC unveiled their new fundraising thermometer, created by Chuck Stewart, Karin Smith, Judith Niland and Gail Lansdown.

Treats were coordinated by Lisa and David Reid, and raffle baskets, created by the ASOC board, brought in more than $4,000. The largest private donations of the evening came from Chuck and Sara Meyer and Don and Carol Haskel. The couples donated $5,000 each.

Cindy Mudge, executive director of the Astoria Sunday Market, announced that the Board of ASM gave ASOC?$2,000. And, Diane Burke from TLC Credit Union paid ASOC $1,000 for 8-year-old Lexi Blacksten to do a second unscheduled performance of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."
