BANKS - Banks took advantage of a big discrepancy at the free throw line to post a big upset in Cowapa League girls basketball Wednesday night, as the last-place Braves (1-7) knocked off first-place Seaside, 38-37.

The Braves - who were just 5-of-19 from the field - were 22-of-34 at the free throw line, to Seaside's 2-of-6. The Gulls (6-2) were called for 27 fouls to Banks' 11.

Megan Merritt scored 10 points and Jessica Markham added nine for the Braves, who rallied from a 29-23 deficit to start the fourth quarter.

Ashley Mayfield had 17 points and six steals for the Gulls, who play at Scappoose Friday.
