The Assistance League of the Columbia Pacific will hold its Golf Ball Drop Fundraiser Saturday at the Astoria Golf & Country Club. A free golf clinic will be held at 10 a.m., followed by a barbecue lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch costs $5 for adults, but there is no cost for children. The golf ball drop and raffle for a children's bicycle will be held at 12:15 p.m. Raffle tickets for the bicycle will be sold at the event.

During the golf ball drop, a helicopter from Arctic Air will hover over a hole set up on the driving range, and numbered golf balls will be dumped onto the ground. Prizes will be awarded to those who hold the ticket numbers to the golf balls that make a hole-in-one and are closest to the pin.

Golf ball tickets can be purchased for $5 each at Holly McHone Jewelers, 1150 Commercial St., Gearhart Grocery, 599 Pacific Way in Gearhart, or by calling Elizabeth Knutsen at (503) 861-2867. The deadline to buy the golf ball tickets is Wednesday.

Prizes include a one night stay for two at the Cannery Pier Hotel plus a dinner certificate for two at the Bridgewater Bistro; an evening for six learning culinary skills at the Mise en Place Cooking School; an evening for eight food pairing with Mike Wallis of the Cellar on 10th; and a spa manicure and 30 minute massage at Shear Pleasures Salon and Spa.

All proceeds from the event will go to Operation School Bell, a program that provides new clothing for Clatsop County children in need.
