Clatsop County Health Department will be closed Friday and Monday to move to its new location in downtown Astoria. However, the agency will continue to respond to immediate public health issues and emergencies during the brief closure.
The Health Department is relocating from its cramped quarters at 857 Commercial St. to the former PeaceHealth Clinic at 820 Exchange St.
The Health Department will be open its regular hours this week through 5 p.m. Thursday.
The regularly scheduled clinic on Monday is canceled, except for emergency walk-ins. The normal clinic schedule will resume Tuesday.
During the closure, people needing tetanus shots, emergency contraception, to report dog bites and similar priority public health concerns can call the Health Department at 325-8500 or drop by the old location on Friday or the new location on Monday.
Phone service will be disconnected briefly Friday afternoon. Doctors and other medical professionals needing to report a public health concern should call 325-8500 and leave a message. Public health staff will be monitoring the messages.
Clients can call in Monday to schedule appointments.
The new site provides twice the space, is newer and designed as a modern health facility and is more customer-friendly with handicapped access and off-street parking.
An open house celebration at the new facility is planned for mid-July.
