The Seaside Historical Society and Museum has new board members.

They are: Ruth Swenson, president; Roger Waller, vice-president; Helen Gaston, secretary; Lynn Ryan, treasurer; Chris Gonzalez, immediate past president; and board members, Sandy Winnett, Ken Ward, Karen Rossi, Evelyn Beisner and Cissy Perkin.

During its annual meeting and board meeting April 6, out-going President Chris Gonzalez said the board is seeking volunteers to help plan the annual 4th of July celebration. This year’s celebration will feature a parade, silent auction and a social, with a band playing on the porch of the Butterfield Cottage.

Western Oregon University Professor Kimberly Jense spoke about the new biography she wrote, “Oregon’s Doc- tor to the World: Esther Pohl Lovejoy.” Jensen said that

Lovejoy, one of Oregon’s earliest female doctors, was instrumental in women’s suffrage and advancing public health initiatives.

Gonzalez thanked all of the members, volunteers and Sou’ Wester Garden Club for their support of the society and museum.

The museum, at 570 Necanicum Drive, is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
