The Hoffman Center in Manzanita has named Janet Maher as its first Outreach Coordinator. The recently created part-time position was made possible by a $15,000 grant from the Seattle-based Laird Norton Family Foundation.

Maher will work with area schools to arrange arts programs during the school year and summer vacation. She will also work with the Center's community of volunteers, supporters and artistic groups.

"I'm happy to be chosen as the first outreach coordinator for the Hoffman Center," said Maher, a Nehalem resident. "I look forward to working with volunteers and local kids in bringing a variety of fun and exciting art activities to the community."

"We received applications from five very qualified individuals," said board president David Dillon. "I was impressed with their backgrounds. Any one of them could have taken on this important job."

In addition to holding a degree in art, Maher has extensive teaching experience. She also maintains a massage practice in Manzanita.
