WARRENTON - The teams from Washington dominated the top half of the Warrenton Invitational wrestling tournament Saturday, with schools from north of the Columbia River finishing 1-2 in the team standings.
Castle Rock ran away with the team title, scoring 245 points to 148.5 for second place Ilwaco. Vernonia (137) was third, followed by Neah-Kah-Nie (104), Wahkiakum (90), Astoria (83), Knappa (73), Warrenton (70) and Seaside (53.5).
Dylan Short led the way for Ilwaco by earning the championship at 285 pounds.
Knappa's Pat Morgan pinned his way through the competition to take first at 140, while freshman teammate Enrique Sutphin placed second at 125, and Cutter Pember took second at 189. Pember was ahead 5-0 in the title bout before suffering an ankle injury.
Astoria brought seven wrestlers to the tournament, and finished with one individual champion and three second-place showings.
Astoria's Kody White won the title at 125 pounds, while Kyle Lucore took second at 119, John Randall was second at 130, and Cody Falk placed second at 145.
