The Ear now knows that Astoria has arrived. Word has it that Astoria Productions will launch the first Astoria International Film Festival at the Liberty Theater Oct. 26, 27, and 28.

The announcement, sent by the executive director of the festival, Ron Craig, says, "The three-day festival will afford film fans an opportunity to view works of regional, national and international filmmakers. A Saturday morning matinee, the Tadpole Children's Festival, will also be featured.

"Astoria Productions and the Astoria International Film Festival are working closely with the culturally rich Astoria community to combine the hospitality of its citizenry with an exciting array of films that is sure to delight film lovers!"

The Ear, who is almost as nutty about films as about local history, thinks this is a perfectly splendid idea, and can hardly wait for the festival to start. The Ear will keep readers posted as more information comes in.
