Artist and author Alisa Burke will appear at an interactive event inspired by her book, "Canvas Remix."

The event takes place at the Seaside Public Library on April 24 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the community room. It will include demonstrations of free writing, layering paint, and using graffiti on canvas in alternative ways.

Burke is a North Coast local and Seaside High School graduate. She is a freelance painter and mixed-media artist who studied fine art at Portland State University.

With a background in painting and printmaking, and a desire to explore and push materials, Burke is always looking for new ways to break the rules and redefine art.

In addition to making art, Burle teaches workshops nationwide and has appeared as a guest artist on the DIY Network show Craft Lab and Quilting Arts TV on PBS.

Her first book, "Canvas Remix," was an exploration of taking canvas way beyond the stretcher bar. Her second book will be out in the spring of 2011. She can be reached at

Seaside Public Library is at 1131 Broadway St., across from the Sunset Empire Youth Center and Swimming Pool.
