Joan Dukes, D-Svensen, had no problem retaining her District 16 seat in the Oregon Senate.

She defeated Republican challenger Don Fell of Astoria 57 percent to 38 percent. Libertarian candidate Helen McDaniel received 5 percent of the vote.

During the campaign, Dukes touted her experience, arguing that the recent gridlock in the Legislature was due in large part to the many novice lawmakers brought to Salem by the state's term-limits law.

It was a court ruling overturning that law last year that allowed Dukes to seek her fifth four-year Senate term.
