Kate Ramsayer is the new environmental and business reporter at The Daily Astorian. She moved to Astoria from Houston, but has lived around the country and the world, having grown up in Norway and Malaysia.

She was a biology major at Williams College in Massachusetts, and conducted laboratory research in Boston for two years. She soon realized her interests lay in journalism, though, and attended the graduate-level science writing program at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

As an intern or a freelancer, she has written for the Houston Chronicle, the Monterey (Calif.) Herald, the Santa Cruz (Calif.) Sentinel, and Science News magazine in Washington, D.C.
