SEASIDE - The Knappa softball team is showing that they will be a force to be reckoned with at the Class 2A level this season ... once they start playing 2A teams.

The Lady Loggers picked up their second victory in two days Wednesday afternoon, as they downed Class 4A Seaside 10-1, one day after defeating Class 3A Neah-Kah-Nie 15-0.

Fresh off a one-hit shutout over the Pirates, Knappa pitcher Dani Donayri struck out 10 batters and allowed just two hits against the Gulls, who were making their debut at Wahanna Field.

Donayri had six strikeouts through three innings, while the Loggers were helping her out by building a 5-1 lead through four.

Kate Shear had an RBI single in the first inning to score Taryn Hirahara, the first of three hits on the day for Shear. A fielder's choice later in the inning by Leslie Hebert brought in Shear for a 2-0 lead.

Knappa's Rachel Boardman drew a leadoff walk in the second and scored on a single by Coriann Roos.

The Loggers made it 5-0 in the top of the fourth, as Cassie West reached on an error and scored on a double by Taryn Hirahara, and Boardman drew a walk and later sprinted home on a single by Roos.

Knappa could have had a few more runs had it not been for a few outstanding defensive plays by the Gulls.

Seaside's Stephanie Hanthorn helped turn three double plays from her position in left field, and shortstop Stephanie Camberg made a diving stop on a grounder by Hebert in the third inning for an out.

Still, the only score the Gulls could manage was a run in the bottom of the fourth, as Hayley Nice reached on an error, stole second, and scored on an error.

The Loggers pulled away with four runs in the sixth, with Lisa Santilli and Shear scoring on a single by Addy Nichols.

A double by Kelsey Stanovich brought in West for a 9-1 lead.

Miranda Olson and Hayley Nice both had singles for a very young Seaside team, which committed six errors.
