Katherine Lacaze, 23, is joining the Seaside Signal team as a reporter who will cover the Seaside and Gearhart communities.
I am motivated by the belief that there is no greater responsibility and privilege than to present factual information to the public so its members may make informed decisions about the things that impact them at a local, regional, state, national or international level, Lacaze said.
Originally from Arizona, she left the Grand Canyon state after high school to attend Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., where she majored in print journalism and minored in criminal justice.
Her first job after graduating from college in December 2011 was as a copy editor and page designer for Media General's consolidated editing center in Lynchburg. She enjoyed the experience working on layout for dozens of Virginia publications, but her goal always was to be a reporter.
When a job opened up in January 2013 with BH Media Group to write for its daily, The (Lynchburg) News & Advance, and weekly, Nelson County Times, she was thrilled to be chosen for the position. She covered Nelson County for both publications and gathered experience writing about a variety of topics, including business, county government, public safety, courts, culture, environment and education.
She decided to move back to the West this spring and was excited when an opportunity arose for her to work with the Seaside Signal.
