Patrick Corcoran, Oregon State University hazards outreach specialist, gave an animated presentation on the potential for a tsunami like the one in Japan March 2011. His talk was a part of a recent day-long workshop on Emergency Preparedness organized by the Titanic Lifeboat Academy and held at Clatsop Community College. The leaders of the Titanic Lifeboat Academy stress the importance of personal responsibility when it comes to disasters and emergencies.

A theme of the day was that preparation is the only relief that can be counted on during a major emergency and government help may be days or weeks away. For more information, email LifeboatAcademy@aol.org or visit www.titaniclifeboatacademy.org
