Local artist Noel Thomas' watercolor, "Hole in the Wall," was selected for the Northwest Watercolor Society's 2007 Open Exhibition. The painting, which depicts a close-up section of aging wall on Astoria's waterfront, was one of 70 chosen for the exhibition by juror Ron Ranson.

"Hole in the Wall" can be seen until June 7 at the Community Center at Mercer View, 8236 S.E. 24th St., Mercer Island, Wash. Exhibit information is available at (206) 236-3545.

Thomas, an accomplished watercolor painter, is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society. His paintings have been accepted in and won awards in numerous juried shows. One painting, "Cranberry Bogs," was featured in the 1996 edition of Splash, a publication from Northlight Books.

After graduating with distinction from Art Center School in Los Angeles, he become an art director with Doyle, Dane, Bernbach, and Jack Tinker & Partners in New York, and later in Los Angeles with Needham, Harper & Steers. His work can be seen at RiverSea Gallery in Astoria and The Shoalwater Gallery in Ilwaco, Wash.
